Participants will learn to identify the specific emotional expectations placed on them by students, families, colleagues, and school leadership, and they will reflect on how these expectations sometimes conflict with their authentic feelings. Through this lens, they will begin to recognize the difference between surface acting—displaying emotions that aren't truly felt—and deep acting—working to genuinely align internal emotions with outward expression. Both have consequences, and understanding them is the first step toward healthier emotional regulation.
Participants will engage in reflection, discussion, and scenario-based learning to identify the emotional demands of their roles and develop strategies for managing them in healthy, sustainable ways. By the end of the session, principals will leave with a deeper awareness of their own emotional landscape and a personalized toolkit for navigating the emotional labor of leadership with resilience and relational strength.

Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of emotional labor and its role in sustaining (or draining) the profession.
